Founded in 1902 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, by Thomas and Charles Jeffery, the Thomas B. Jeffery Company manufactured Rambler automobiles, which quickly became the second-most mass-produced automobile in the US, behind Oldsmobile. Their early recognition came from displays at the Chicago Auto Show as well as participation in the New York-to-Boston Reliability Run. The company’s first offering was the Model C.
This Model C Runabout, chassis 738, was previously owned by Russell Holden of Chicago. According to a history summary on file, the car had just one owner prior to Mr. Holden. During Mr. Holden’s ownership, the Rambler took part in the 1996 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and was subsequently dated by the Veteran Car Club as 1902. In 2005, William Alley acquired the Rambler, becoming its third owner. Prior to Mr. Alley’s ownership, it was upgraded with a circular steering wheel, which Rambler installed on their cars in place of a tiller beginning in 1904.
Upon Mr. Alley’s acquisition, he entrusted the renowned Robinson Restorations of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, to perform a concours restoration to the Runabout. These efforts were recognized when the car was shown at the AACA National Fall Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in 2006, where it received the coveted AACA Senior Award. Fitted with Runabout body no. 15, and equipped with original tools and oilers, this Rambler warrants your closest inspection.
