The Buick Motor Company was founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick. With the addition of engineering genius Walter L. Marr, the company would go on to build high-quality automobiles featuring an advanced overhead valve engine design – a hallmark of Buick powerplants. The company was acquired by William C. “Billy” Durant in 1908 and under his watchful eye, Buick flourished and soon became one of the most successful automotive brands in the US. In 1910, the Model 10 was Buick’s best-selling offering, with approximately 11,000 units being built. Of those, a mere 330 were Toy Tonneau-bodied vehicles.

While the earliest history of this Buick Model 10 is not currently known, a brass registration tag affixed to the dash indicates possible ownership in Indiana prior to 1913. This attractive Toy Tonneau was purchased by William Alley from Russell Holden of Chicago, in 1990. Reportedly very complete on acquisition, Mr. Alley embarked on an exacting, show-quality restoration, the results of which continue to appear in almost new condition and showing minimal use.
