Unveiled in 1948, the 356 was the first production car to bear the Porsche name and was hand built in Gmünd, Austria. By 1950, Porsche moved production to Zuffenhausen, Germany, where “Pre-A” 356 models were manufactured from 1950 to 1955. Notable updates introduced in 1952 included a one-piece bent windshield, more robust bumpers with guards, and a synchromesh gearbox.
According to its Kardex, this Porsche 356 Coupe was completed in December 1952 and finished in rare Radium Green metallic. Equipped with the high-performance, 70 hp 1500 Super engine, this US-specification model was optioned with the Deluxe package, which included a plusher interior, tachometer, decorative trim, and a Telefunken radio. Imported through Max Hoffman in New York, Porsche’s US distributor, this 356 was one of 635 cars built that year, and the 2,029th produced overall. Although little is known about its early history, at some point this 356 joined the Saottini Collection in Brescia, Italy. Volkswagen and Porsche dealers since 1951, the Saottini family is believed to have restored the car to a high standard and campaigned it in eight editions of the 1000 Miglia retrospective between 2009 and 2018. Offered with tools, an original sales brochure, Porsche Certificate of Origin, ASI Certificate with Targa Oro, Kardex copy, and FIVA Identity Card, this early “bent-window” 356 joined Ken Roath’s collection in 2020 and was fitted with a correct type 528 engine. Rare and desirable, this handsome 1500 Super Coupe would make an exceptional addition to any collection.
*Please note that this vehicle has a combined acceptance to two Mille Miglia events – the Warm UpUSA Event in November 2025 and the Mille Miglia 2026 – subject to registration and payment of entry fee.
