Introduced in 1960 with the updated “B” series, the 356 Roadster offered the pure, sporting essence of open motoring while offering occupants a more refined and versatile package than the earlier Speedster and Convertible D. In total, Porsche built approximately 2,900 Roadsters through 1962.
This lovely Roadster was completed on March 11, 1960, finished in the rare color combination of Fjord Green over gray leatherette. Originally equipped with reclining seats and Continental tires, the 356 was delivered to Porsche Cars Pacific in Burlingame, California, and its first recorded owner was Robert Douglas Inglis of Los Altos, California. The Roadster remained in the San Francisco Bay Area until Fred Leydorf acquired it for his growing Porsche collection. During his ownership, the 356 was exercised in good weather and displayed at the 2001 Ault Park Concours d’Elegance in Cincinnati, Ohio, where it received First in Class honors.
Significantly, this 356 retains its original, matching-numbers engine and transaxle per a copy of the factory Kardex, and its hood and deck lid are stamped with the last two digits of the chassis number. Handsomely presented in its original and seldom-seen Fjord Green livery, the Roadster now features black upholstery, and is accompanied by books, tool kit, jack, Kardex copy, and assorted service and registration records. A superb example of a rare 356 model, this car offers the quintessential vintage Porsche experience in an attractive, well-rounded package.
