The 450 SL was the 4.5-liter V-8-equipped version of the popular Mercedes- Benz R107 series roadster, which was introduced in 1971 and sold under the SL model name. Conceived as a grand touring sports car primarily for the North American market, the 450 SL balanced a high degree of performance and luxury. In addition to a larger V-8 engine, the 450 SL featured a unique convertible top and detachable hardtop design. Styling for the 450 SL changed minimally throughout its production with attention paid toward improving amenities and ever-changing vehicle standards.

In its present ownership for 15 years, this 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL benefits from a restoration by Tony LaBella Classic Cars, which was completed in 2015 and included a bare-metal repaint of its original – and extremely rare – factory Nickel Green (DB 870) paint. In addition to a color-matching hardtop, it has a dark green convertible top that was installed in 2024. The engine compartment and undercarriage are tidy, and the interior remains in excellent, original condition, with rebuilt seats and cold-blowing, factory air-conditioning. As the last year offered, color-matched, factory wheel covers have been fitted for period correctness. Recently, the striking Mercedes-Benz has had an extensive inspection and servicing of its transmission, timing chain, and exhaust system. Given its rarity, it is unlikely that a Nickel Green 450 SL will become available again in such excellent condition; keen-eyed collectors should take note.
