Porsche leveraged their dominance in the Can-Am racing series of 1972–1973 to pioneer turbocharging technology for serial sports car production. Debuting in 1975, the 930 Turbo received significant upgrades for 1978 that continued with the 1979 model, including a larger 3.3-liter intercooled engine with 265 bhp in US trim. Externally, a redesigned rear spoiler housed an intercooler, while brakes were upgraded with four-piston calipers and ventilated discs from the 917 Le Mans racers.

This 1979 model is finished in Light Blue Metallic over dark blue leather. One of 806 examples exported to the US for the model year, it was purchased new by Dr. Douglas Cardoza of Santa Rosa, California, through Veale Porsche-Audi.

Additional equipment included a limited-slip differential, sport seats, and an electric sliding sunroof. Documented by receipts on file, Dr. Cardoza cherished and meticulously maintained the 930. Sold from Cardoza’s 24-year ownership in 2003, the car has since passed through few hands. More recently, this 930’s matching-numbers engine and transaxle were rebuilt by a marque specialist in 2016, while the interior’s blue leather was replaced. In 2014, the 930 scored 243 out of 250 points at a Porsche Club of America concours and took Second in Class at Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue. Displaying 11,078 miles when catalogued, presenting extremely well throughout, and boasting by an extensive protection film, conserving what the consignor believes to be the original paint, this blue-on-blue 930 Turbo is a true standout among its peers.
