The 993-generation Porsche 911 holds a special place in the model’s history, standing as the final air-cooled series of cars. One of the significant shifts in the 993 model lineup was the introduction of the new Targa. This was a nameplate that had been synonymous with the 911 since its introduction in 1966 and was known to all as the 911 with a removable roof panel. Even so, when the 993 Targa was introduced in 1996, the removable section was replaced by a power-retracting glass roof.
This 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Targa was sold new in Germany and spent time in Canada before arriving in the US in 2023. Finished in a striking combination of Turquoise Metallic over a Classic Gray interior, the car shows just 50,156 km (approx. 31,165 miles) at the time of cataloguing. Well-equipped from the factory, this Targa is fitted with heated, poweradjustable front seats, a limited-slip differential, cruise control, and a set of the Targa-specific 17" Speedline two-piece wheels. Powering the 993 Targa is a 3.6-liter M64 air-cooled flat-six that produces 282 hp and sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed transaxle.
This 993 Targa is an exceptionally kept example that marks the end of the air-cooled era and the beginning of a new style of Targa that Porsche would use for more than 15 years.
