Blessed by the hand of the late, great Marcello Gandini, the Diablo retained a purposeful stance despite stretching more than a foot longer than the Countach, allowing for much improved driver and passenger comfort. Though the Countach already pushed the envelope for width of a road-going machine at 6' 7" across its rear, the Diablo grew here too, albeit by only an inch. Power and aural majesty were provided by an evolution of the Bizzarrini-engineered V-12 first seen in the 350GT of 1964, and though all Diablos were initially rear-wheel drive, the all-wheel drive VT (for Viscous Traction) debuted in 1993.

The SV first saw light in 1995, featuring more power, less weight, a variant-specific body kit and graphics, and exclusively rear-wheel drive, instantly allaying the fears of any who may have deemed more common Diablos as too accommodating or easily accessible for a V-12 flagship Lamborghini. With nearly 40 additional horsepower and about 200 fewer pounds to motivate, the SV was easily one of the world’s fastest production cars of the era – in fact, its sub-four-second 0–60 mph run and top speed of 208 mph are still remarkable figures a quarter century later.

The example offered here is one of just 346 Diablo SVs built, and retains fully standard, unmodified specification throughout, including its multipiece OZ Racing wheels, Giallo Fly (Fly Yellow) color, and even the correct factory Alpine-supplied stereo system with an Alpine 3DE receiver. As detailed at length in the car’s included maintenance history, a major service was performed in 2018 and totaled in excess of $20,000. During an inspection in 2024, further work was performed which included new engine oil, brake fluid, and filters. Other accompanying items include a set of VIN-matched manuals with an embossed leather folio, tool kit, bulb and fuse holder, spare belts, tire inflator, and original, factory-supplied gloves and leather carry bag. The glass remains original all around, with each pane identified as such by factory etchings. Crucially, this Diablo SV is equipped with appropriate Pirelli PZERO Asimmetrico Tires, measuring 235/35ZR18 and 335/30ZR18, respectively.

Though originally positioned as the entry-level model within the Diablo range, the SV’s distinctly hardcore character attracted only the most dedicated driving enthusiasts and marque aficionados; as a result, it is now among the scarcest and most sought-after of all standard-production Diablos. Chassis 12935 is particularly special for its stunning condition, originality, and completeness. Roadworthy and ready to be enjoyed, it represents the pinnacle of the pre-Audi V-12 Lamborghini lineage.
