Auction Powerhouses Gooding & Company and Christie’s to Co-Host New York Exhibition Featuring Cars, Photographs, Jewelry, and More

The display will feature three cars consigned by Gooding & Company for their upcoming Amelia Island Auction, along with highlights of Christie’s London and New York Spring Sales.

Santa Monica, Calif. (February 1, 2019) – Gooding & Company, the internationally-celebrated auction house acclaimed for selling some of the world’s most significant and valuable collector cars, is proud to announce their collaboration with Christie’s, the world’s leading art business, on a joint exhibition at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from February 8-13.

“We are delighted to be joining our friends at Christie's to bring our clientele together at Rockefeller Center for this special exhibition,” says President and Founder of Gooding & Company, David Gooding. “Both Gooding & Company and Christie's recognize that today's collectors have interests that reach beyond a single category. Our buyers are constantly in search of items of unmatched quality - whether it is a motor car, a painting, or a piece of fine jewelry. Bringing together these exceptional cars in the New York City gallery is an exciting opportunity to reach new clients across the collecting categories and is emblematic of the global market demand for collector cars.”

The collector preview offers an exclusive opportunity to view three rare and limited-edition examples offered by Gooding & Company ahead of their March 8 auction in Amelia Island, Florida. Included in their highlyanticipated collection is a 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Runabout. Not only is this Packard in exceptional condition, it is one of just eight Runabouts to exist today. Under the current ownership, this 734 Speedster has earned several prestigious awards, including First in Class at the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®.

Gooding & Company’s next car on display is a 1967 Porsche 911 2.0 S. An undisputed icon and one of the most successful sports cars of all time, the 911 has become increasingly prized due to their reputation of lasting performance and vintage character. This car has been under the possession of only two owners in its 52-year lifetime, and has been meticulously maintained in its factory-applied Polo Red paint and original KONI shock absorbers.

Rounding out the Gooding & Company preview is a 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera RS, specially ordered in Blossom Yellow. Having originally been delivered to its first owner in Italy, this car has since made its way across the Atlantic after being acquired by former CEO and co-Founder of the mobile messaging application WhatsApp, Jan Koum, and will be sold without reserve.

Highlights on view from Christie’s New York Spring Sales will include Photographs, Jewelry, Watches, Meteorites and Spirits. Additionally, Christie’s will be exhibiting a grouping of features from the London Evening Sales of Post-War and Contemporary and Impressionist and Modern Art, including a masterpiece by David Hockney, Henry Geldzahler and Christopher Scott (estimate in excess of £30 million), from The Collection of Barney A. Ebsworth

Jen Zatorski, President, Christie’s Americas, remarks “Christie’s is excited to be collaborating with Gooding & Company to exhibit three top lots from their upcoming March auction together with highlights from our spring sales. By presenting these iconic automobiles alongside highlights from upcoming Christie’s auctions of Photographs, Post-War & Contemporary Art, Impressionist & Modern Art, Jewelry, Watches, and Spirits, we aim to create an immersive cross-category viewing experience for our clients.”
