Santa Monica, Calif. (June 11, 2023) — International auction house Gooding & Company is pleased to announce a cross-promotional partnership with 1000 Miglia for 2023. The 1000 Miglia brand honors the legacy of the historic 1000 Miglia races and each year celebrates automotive excellence with its numerous world-class events. This joint endeavor brings together a global collector car market leader with one of the most significant and prominent names in the world of historic racing, paving the path for future experiences and exclusive opportunities for their respective audiences.
As an official sponsor of Gooding & Company’s 2023 auctions, the 1000 Miglia team will partner with Gooding ahead of its Pebble Beach and London Auctions to advise on potential 1000 Miglia eligibility for suitable consignments. Through this partnership, eligible vehicles will receive pre-certification for entry into forthcoming 1000 Miglia events, as was the case with two such lots sold at Gooding & Company’s 2023 Amelia Island Auctions. Additionally, 1000 Miglia will host an exclusive experience at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions this August, allowing guests to learn more about their upcoming events.
Concurrently, Gooding & Company will serve as an official Spirit of 1000 Miglia partner for global 1000 Miglia events. The auction house will be present with a display at the start of the annual 1000 Miglia event this week in Brescia, Italy, where it will exhibit a 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita from its upcoming London Auction. Later this year, Gooding & Company will partner with the fourth edition of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA event, taking place from October 31 to November 5 in the Washington, DC area.
“We are honored to partake in this initiative with the 1000 Miglia team, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with one of the most important brands in the history of automotive racing,” said Gooding & Company President and Founder, David Gooding. “Throughout the years, Gooding & Company has presented and sold a number of incredibly significant offerings with 1000 Miglia provenance, and this partnership really celebrates the best of both the auction and historic event worlds.”
“We are delighted to announce this partnership, which has its foundations in the shared values that the 1000 Miglia has carried since its inception,” said Alberto Piantoni, CEO of 1000 Miglia. “The Spirit of 1000 Miglia is the recognition that is given to the cars that symbolize the authentic essence of the Red Arrow and which stems from the desire to exalt and spread the spirit that, since 1927, has characterized the race that is today recognized as ‘the most beautiful race in the world.’ It is with great pleasure that we find these values in the attention and passion that Gooding & Company promotes in the world of motoring.”

The example on offer for Gooding & Company’s upcoming London Auction, chassis 1493.03389, features Bertone bodywork and was completed in December 1956 before being delivered to its first owner in Casablanca, Morocco. In recent years, this Alfa Romeo has had quite the comeback. From 2011 to 2013, it underwent a thorough restoration carried out by Quality Cars of Pianiga, Italy. Since completion, this Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita has covered over 4,200 kilometers, and was even a successful participant in the 2019 1000 Miglia, where it entered as no. 352. Today, it is road registered in England, and comes accompanied by a FIVA identity card, as well as a Registro Mille Miglia homologation. Its next custodian will surely appreciate that this car is ripe with opportunity for countless historic driving events, tours, and rallies.
This 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita will join the rest of Gooding & Company’s catalogue for its London Auction on 1 September, set to take place at Hampton Court Palace in conjunction with the Concours of Elegance. A limited number of consignments to this upcoming sale are still being accepted, please contact Gooding & Company to speak with a specialist today.
