Santa Monica, Calif. (June 9, 2021) — Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, has revealed a stellar selection of custom coachbuilt Italian sports cars to headline its return to the 2021 Pebble Beach Auctions. The company will hold its signature auctions featuring some of the most prized collector cars on Friday, August 13th, and Saturday, August 14th at the 70th anniversary of the Pebble Beach Concours.

1958 Ferrari 250 GT Series I Cabriolet (Estimate: $4,500,000 – $5,500,000) Among the most exclusive and expensive 250 GT models of its time, the 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Series I Cabriolet, chassis 1075 GT, features custom coachwork by Pinin Farina and is the 34th of the 40 Series I Cabriolets built by the legendary marque. It debuted at the notable Earls Court Motor Show in London, England, and was then sold new to a customer in France. The car made its way to the US when it was exported to its new owners, a prominent Bay Area family, in the early 1960s. The esteemed example was later owned by well-known collectors such as Said Marouf and prominent automotive designer Dick Teague.
A star in its own right, chassis 1075 GT is finished in its attractive original color scheme of Andalusia Gold over brown leather. It underwent an extraordinary restoration by Wayne Obry’s Motion Products Inc., one of the foremost Ferrari restorers in the world. Following its restoration, chassis 1075 GT achieved a perfect 100-point score and Best in Class in its concours debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® in 2008, as well as winning Best in Show at the Ferrari National Meet, Best 12-Cylinder at Cavallino, and Best in Class at Villa d’Este among other major awards. It is also Ferrari Classiche Certified, retaining its original chassis, body, engine, gearbox, and differential.
1956 Maserati A6G/54 Coupe (Estimate: $2,500,000 – $3,250,000) This 1956 Maserati A6G/54 Coupe, chassis 2140, is one of only four examples built by Carrozzeria Frua from a limited run of only 60 chassis built, making it one of the most exclusive coachbuilt Maseratis of the 1950s. This particular A6G/54 debuted on the Maserati stand at the prestigious 1956 Paris Motor Show, after which it was delivered new to prominent French architect Jacques Fildier. In 1959, it joined the esteemed Roger Baillon collection and was famously rediscovered in 2015, still in unrestored, barn-find condition.
Since its acquisition by its most recent caretaker, the fourth owner and the first out of France, this car has been driven on the California Mille, displayed at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, and Hampton Court, in addition to being awarded in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® Preservation class. Finished in black with a light blue roof and original beige leather upholstery, chassis 2140 is presented with a fantastic patina, and is among the last of the A6 Maseratis to remain in exceptional unrestored condition.
1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica LWB Coupe Aerodinamico (Estimate: $2,200,000 – $2,600,000) As the most exclusive and expensive road-going Ferrari of its era, this particular 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica LWB Coupe Aerodinamico, chassis 4251 SA, is one of only 22 Series II long-wheelbase examples built. It features striking Coupe Aerodinamico coachwork by Pininfarina, inspired by the Superfast II show car and Ferrari’s Sperimentale race car. This example was delivered new to the North American Distributor Luigi Chinetti and displayed at the 1963 New York International Auto Show. It is well-documented by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini and has had just two Southern California owners over the past 35 years.
In 2004, this example underwent a complete ground-up restoration by marque specialist Motion Products Inc. and comes elegantly finished in silver with green leather upholstery, complete with fitted luggage. Chassis 4251 SA is a multiple award recipient, having won Best of Show at the Ferrari National Meet, Best of Class at Cavallino, Amelia Island, Meadow Brook, and Palos Verdes. It was designated the Pininfarina Award at Villa d’Este, in addition to Second in Class at the Pebble Beach Concours. This championed example has also successfully participated in several rallies, including the Colorado Grand, the Louis Vuitton Rally, and the Copperstate 1000.
1953 Siata 208 CS (Estimate: $1,400,000 – $1,800,000) An extremely rare exotic sports car by the famous tuning firm Siata of Torino, Italy, this 1953 Siata 208 CS, chassis CS072, presents an incredible auction opportunity for serious collectors. Based on Fiat’s innovative 8V or Otto Vu, the Siata features a two-liter V-8 engine, five-speed gearbox, and advanced chassis with a fully independent suspension. The model was designed as a dual-purpose high-performance sports car and was incredibly competitive in the popular two-liter class. It is believed that just nine of these cars were built by a small coachbuilder, Carrozzeria Balbo, in Torino. Its distinctive features include a wide front grille, pop-up headlights, lightweight alloy construction, and a minimalist two-seat interior compartment.
Delivered new in Italy, the Siata 208 CS was exported to the US in the late 1950s and was owned by several sports car enthusiasts, including notable Ferrari collector Charles Betz. This example was formerly part of the famed Rosso Bianco collection in Germany, and has since been comprehensively restored by its current owner, a connoisseur of Italian sports cars. This special Siata is elegantly finished in a striking dark blue-green shade with brown leather, and is eligible for numerous concours and driving events. In recent years, it received a class award at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® and was displayed at the Quail in 2019.
1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 (Estimate: $1,400,000 – $1,800,000) This near-perfect, beautifully restored example of the original 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400, featuring coachwork by Bertone, is emblematic of one of the most iconic and influential sports cars in history. It was restored by Cairati in Milan, Italy, and has been certified by Lamborghini historian Polo Storico. This example, chassis 3378, was restored in its original colors, and retains its matching-numbers engine and body panels. It is accompanied with books, a tool kit, owner’s manual, and other significant paperwork and accessories. It has never before been exhibited, and its next owner will have the exciting opportunity to enter it at concours events and display a strongly distinguished car for the first time. All in all, chassis 3378 may truly be the finest restored P400 Miura in existence.
1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Villa d’Este (Estimate: $1,250,000 – $1,500,000) This top-of-the-line, high-performance 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Villa d’Este, chassis 915.888, is a prestigious show-stopper with a strongly documented history. It comes clothed with an exquisite, all-aluminum body built by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, Italy, a firm synonymous with elegant aesthetic design and technical innovation. Chassis 915.888 is one of only 34 examples built of the ‘Villa d’Este,’ a lightweight, sporting coupe named after the famous Hotel on Lake Como –– the esteemed venue for Italy’s most exclusive concours d’elegance. The car was delivered new to a member of the Egyptian royal family, and was later owned by Malcolm Harris, a famed Alfa Romeo collector and 6C 2500 aficionado. Restored in Europe, the coupe is beautifully finished in Dark Green Metallic paint with light green leather upholstery. Under its current ownership, it has been displayed at several leading concours, winning awards at Pebble Beach, the Quail, and the Art Center Classic.
