Press Release

If You’re a Porsche Enthusiast, You’re Going to Want to See This 1959 718 RSK

This stunning example could fetch over $3 million at auction

This March, Gooding & Company is set to sell one of the best Porsches you’ve ever seen at its 12th annual Amelia Island Auction at the Concours d’Elegance. Sure, you’ve seen Porsches in every shape and size, especially since the market for them is so strong at the moment. However, it’s pretty rare that an example this stunning pops up, let alone for public auction! So when you see it, you might have to suspend your drooling for a moment.

With a curvaceous body and incredible racing capability, the 1959 Porsche 718 RSK is one of the most iconic Porsches of all time. Developed to be the ultimate lightweight sports racing car, the model swiftly replaced the Porsche 550A. With innovations like faired-in headlamps, a revised chassis, and a significantly more aerodynamic body, the 718 got down to business, winning its class at Le Mans in 1959 and the Targa Florio overall.

You might think that there are tons of classic Porsche Spyders floating around out there, but that’s not exactly how it goes. There are only 34 examples of the RSK produced, so they’re pretty difficult to get your paws on. This example was first purchased new by California privateer racer and Porsche-Volkswagen dealer Emil Pardee, who campaigned the car in various SCCA events. In his 14 starts, he achieved a very impressive 10 class wins and 3 overall victories. Not an underachiever here, is she?

Remarkably, this 718 has been owned by a single family for over 50 years ever since it made its way to the East Coast. In 1970. It remained in static storage until 2014, when it underwent a complete, photo-documented restoration that took three and a half years. The car was even painted in nitrocellulose lacquer to match the original Porsche factory standards, using German paint and antique spray guns. Basically, it got just about the best spruce-up possible.

No matter if you’re a serious Porsche collector looking to make the investment of a lifetime or you simply want to stare at one of the most beautiful cars you’ve ever seen, you can check out Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island Auction page here
