Press Release

In August, This Exceptional Ferrari Will Turn Heads

A 1990 Ferrari F40 from the 2022 Pebble Beach Auctions

Each August, Gooding & Company turns out some real works of art for their Pebble Beach Auction. If you’re a car enthusiast, or specifically, a really stellar car enthusiast, you comb through the catalogue to see what gems have been unearthed. Some still might shock you, somehow.

In fact, there’s one specific Ferrari that might make you swoon. It’s none other than the 1990 Ferrari F40. It’s not every year that an example like this goes over the block. Last year, Gooding & Company set the record for the most impressive price realized for an F40 at auction, which this model may eclipse.

Most 1990s Ferraris have distinctive and beautiful coachwork, but few have the provenance of this. Not only is the car gorgeous, but it’s also got a rich history, which is an added plus. The F40 was the last automotive project Enzo Ferrari himself oversaw before his passing. It’s as classically handsome as Ferraris can get, with a mouthwatering 90s flare.

This model was built for a racetrack, but designed as a road car. In other words, no other Ferrari offers such a harmony between form and function like the F40. Unlike other popular racing cars at the time (Hi, Porsche!), this Ferrari ditches avant-garde technology, choosing a classic approach instead. That means it favors simplicity, force, and weight savings, or in other words, the tried and true formula for speed and power.

It boasts a Leonardo Fioravanti-designed Scaglietti body, which gives it that special flair you know and love from 90s Ferraris. This model was constructed entirely of Kevlar, carbon fiber, and Nomex®, which is unconventional for a road car. Of course, there’s also a 2.9-liter, four-cam, twin-turbocharged fuel-injected V-8 engine to match.

The F40 shocked the press then, and this model continues to shock the press now with a reported 0-60 sprint in 3.8 seconds and 70-0 stopping distances of 219 ft. The driving approach isn’t just simple and visceral– it’s also pretty fun, if you can tell.

With accolades like a Ferrari Club of America Annual Experience Platinum award, Coppa Bella Macchina award, and an Outstanding Supercar Award, this matchless US-specification F40 is rare, high-performing, and just simply valuable.

Set to fetch upwards of $2,750,000, the 1990 Ferrari F40 is a sight to behold. You can check it out and register to bid at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction Page here.
