The ingeniously designed Lancia Fulvia can trace its unusual engine format to the 1922 Lancia Lambda, with its narrow-angle V-4. The Fulvia’s accomplishments at rallies have added to Lancia’s legendary reputation for quality and design. This 1967 Fulvia 1.3 Rallye HF is one of just four examples imported in street trim by Italian car dealer Otto Zipper of Los Angeles, California, in 1967. Weighing only approximately 2,100 pounds, performance was brisk and lively, with handling to match. According to documentation on file and its entry in the volume Cunningham: The Passion, The Cars, The Legacy, this Fulvia was originally owned by legendary racer and sportsman Briggs S. Cunningham and spent time on display in his famed Costa Mesa, California museum.
Following years in the ownership of noted philanthropist Dr. Paul Guttman of Nevada, the Lancia was sold to the current owner in 2008. As with each of his cars, he soon resolved to address any needs the rare Fulvia might have with a full service and comprehensive detail. In 2017, the car received an extensive mechanical refurbishment by the respected Graham Engineering & Motorsport of New Jersey, addressing the cooling, braking, fuel, induction, exhaust, ignition, and suspension systems. In more recent years, the Fulvia received recognition at the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue. The consignor states that the Lancia retains its proper 1.3-liter engine and much of its original interior. This outstanding rally-specification Fulvia is a worthy member of the historic Lancia family of automobiles.
